Tips On Getting A New Job By Elevating Your Style: The Fashion Muse
How to Elevate Your Essentials with The Fashion Muse
Prissy Torres of The Fashion Muse is a Miami based Latina influencer/blogger who has been in the industry for over 5+ years. Having started this out as a hobby with zero understanding on gaining profit or even a following out of this, Prissy began blogging about all things style. Throughout time her platform generated bigger interaction and traffic which led to her brand growing outside of the fashion category. Now inspiring others through beauty and her lifestyle, Prissy has worked alongside brands such as; Vogue, Amazon, Google, and has been featured on People Magazine’s Influencers to watch list.
- In an industry that is constantly evolving, As an influencer, she knew she had to be unique. In March 2020, when Covid began, she felt that it was the perfect timing to become much more than just an influencer title. With everyone being at home and many having lost their jobs, she wanted to do something that would inspire others to excel amid the chaos that was unfolding in society, careers and just life in general. She expanded The Fashion Muse to be much more than just a platform that women can turn to for style advice and inspiration. With her background in Public & Influencer Relations, she wanted to disrupt the idea of the influencer industry being a community that was just viewed as one sponsored post after another and a community that just viewed each other as competition. This is where it all began. Her story is especially important to me because I report on dress for success. Since March, she has taken on influencers under her wing that have definitely pioneered this industry into what it is today. Mega Influencers like Kathleen Lights work alongside my brand to further expand their own businesses on socials and revenue.
Being considered a “Micro Influencer” doesn’t define what she can achieve or give back to in this community. Whether you lost your job because of the pandemic, or you’ve simply just been working from home in the past 6 months, here are a few ways you can step back into the workplace in confidence and most importantly style.
During the pandemic, loungewear became a must. Making it some of the most sought-after clothing pieces, almost every brand began to release their own versions of loungewear essentials. Feeling comfortable working from home was a must, however; Can you truly put that sweat-set back into action for your next job interview or even your first day back in the office?
Think of this as your Elevated Essentials.
I recently had the privilege of speaking with The Fashion Muse about why Quarantine blues are a real thing, and so is your sense of style, why putting together the best combinations at the workplace displays an air of for dress for success and why she feels that if you’re an influencer and you’re not using your platform for true “influence” during times like these, is it even worth it?
Joseph DeAcetis: What Elevated Essentials would you recommend for a job interview?
The Fashion Muse: Whether your interview is taking place via zoom or in person, these three pieces from Alice and Olivia are the perfect combination of workplace essentials and a girl who isn’t afraid to make a statement with her style (putting her best fashion foot forward)
Joseph DeAcetis: What Elevated Essentials would you recommend for your first day back in the office?
The Fashion Muse: Quarantine blues are a real thing, and so is your sense of style. Heading back into the office space after months of being at home, can be tricky. You’ll want to feel comfortable but also play into your style senses. This ALC Puff sleeve dress is the perfect mixture of comfort and chic. Paired with my favorite Prada shoes of the moment, adds a bit of edge to the whole look while remaining on trend.
Joseph DeAcetis: Talk to Forbes about your personal style, the importance of style to you, and how it relates to your brand as an Influencer?
The Fashion Muse: My personal style has definitely evolved over time (& thankfully it has!). I feel like my style will continue to change during different stages of my life, however I feel like my personal style at this moment is what I feel the MOST myself in. Style has always been a form of expression for me, almost like an outlet of some sorts.
Joseph DeAcetis: Who is your favorite designer or brand? why?
The Fashion Muse: This is one of the hardest questions you can ask a fashion girl! However, some of my current (and cult) favorites include; Dior, Cult Gaia, Balmain, I.AM.GIA, Off White, Gucci, and Versace.
Joseph DeAcetis: How has your workflow changed during the COVID-19 pandemic?
The Fashion Muse: It’s changed tremendously. In the past 6 months, I have faced new adjustments and growth. You can professionally accomplish so much in a matter of months, but my workflow has increased despite the pandemic (thankfully). That increase is only due to the fact that I decided to expand my brand into so much more than just selfies and outfit of the days. I have influencer/brand clients that I opened my expertise to, that I am now responsible for.
Joseph DeAcetis: How are you using your platform and influence during this time to create a social impact?
The Fashion Muse: If you’re an influencer and you’re not using your platform for true “influence” during times like these, is it even worth it? With the pandemic and movements (such as BLM), how can one just stay silent when they have a platform with a voice? I have personally taken advantage of these times to further educate myself, and educate my audience in sharing insights, foundations, donation platforms, etc.
As far as making an impact in the nature of a pandemic, I have taken into consideration that there are so many people out there suffering (financially and career/business wise). I wanted to inspire through what I know best – fashion. I began to post, collaborate with other brands, and even schedule live streams on Instagram where my audience can tune into and hear style tips “on going back to the office”, “Tips to increase productivity in your new WFH schedule”, “Makeup looks to create for your zoom meetings” and even directing “How to create content as an influencer at home”.
Joseph DeAcetis: Tell Forbes about your upcoming projects.
The Fashion Muse: Right now (as mentioned above), I expanded my brand into helping other influencers in their own businesses and social platforms. Branding is a huge part of this industry, and I only wish that when I stepped foot into this, I had someone who would have further guided me in the importance of branding, aesthetics, and even the business responsibility that comes along with this industry. I chose to put my focus on influencers vs companies or even brands seeking help with all of the above. My reason for this was having experienced the competitive nature that unfolds in between influencers most of the time. Instead of viewing each other as competition, I chose to want to help them grow further. At the moment, I manage beauty Youtuber Katheen Lights’s brands (Lights Label & Lights Lacquer) across socials on content, branding, and strategy.
Joseph DeAcetis: How would you describe your daily street style?
The Fashion Muse: Feminine with a touch of that tomboy edge!
