California woman charged with fraudulently using $4.5M in PPP loans to fund travel and shopping

The Department of Justice is charging an Oakland woman with allegedly using $4.5 million in PPP coronavirus relief funds to fraudulently fund her luxurious lifestyle of travel and shopping at high-end stores.

The woman’s name is Christina Burden and she has been charged with one count of bank fraud that reportedly occurred in June when she applied for coronavirus business relief funds in the amount of $684,375 through the Paycheck Protection Program. She was approved for the loan that was allegedly for a shell company.

According to a criminal complaint, the DOJ says the woman allegedly went on to submit nine other fraudulent PPP loan requests. In the end, she was given over $4.5 million that reportedly went to four different companies that didn’t really exist.

22-year-old woman arrested after stealing car outside of coffee shop in Monona | Crime

A 22-year-old woman was arrested after stealing a car outside of a coffee shop in the city of Monona Tuesday morning. 

Antonia M. Crawford was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, resisting/obstructing arrest as well as an outstanding retail theft warrant, Madison police spokesperson Tyler Grigg said. 

Shortly after the car was stolen outside of the coffee stop, a Madison police officer saw the car at a Mobil gas station at 3019 E. Washington Ave. at around 9:30 a.m. Crawford, who was driving the stolen car, struggled against and resisted officers as she was taken into custody.

And that’s exactly what happened to one woman, who popped into her local B&M for cleaning supplies – and walked out with four trolley’s worth of stock. 

The woman went shopping with her mum, who filmed her mountain of goodies in the carpark. 

Her mum shared the clip to TikTok, saying: “When you go shopping to B&M with your shopaholic daughter.”
