Swedish fashion influencers to know

We all know the sartorial clichés about Copenhagen-based shoppers loving minimalism, or French women favouring classic pieces, but how far does where you live actually impact your look? In a new series, we ask some of the most popular fashion influencers how they define their style and in what ways their home city might be responsible for this.

This month, we’re looking at Stockholm and asking some of the Swedish capital’s most stylish residents what the city really means to them in terms of fashion.

Here is what Anna Winck, Matilda Djerf, Emma Fridsell, Felicia Akerstrom, Chrystelle Eriksberger, Viola Bergström and Hanna Mw had to say on the topic.

How would you describe your style in three words?

“Playful, childish and unplanned.”

What are your go-to brands?

“Charlotte Simone, Rowen Rose and Hankjobenhavn.”

What’s unique about living in Stockholm and how does that impact your style?

“Right now it feels very unique due to what’s going on in the whole world at the moment with the pandemic. Sweden is the only place on earth that is not in total lockdown, but I always take my responsibility and try to isolate as much as possible.

“When it comes to style the Swedes are not very crazy – most of the people dress in black, grey and nude tones – so I have always felt very colourful compared to other people, and you can definitely feel that when walking by a crowd, that people sometimes stare.”

What’s your favourite thing about Swedish style?

“I love brands like Eytys and Acne Studios, they really sum up what I love when it comes to Swedish style – the classics as well as being a bit statement.”

How would you describe your style in three words?

“Comfortable, authentic, playful. I love mixing classic with new.”

What are your go-to brands?

“Djerf Avenue, Orseund Iris, By Far and vintage.”

What’s unique about living in Stockholm and how does that impact your style?

“It’s such a fashion-forward city, and very seasonal. So during summer, I’ll walk around in mini dresses or a full suit with flip flops. And during winter I’ll be bundled up in the biggest coat I can find. I think living in Stockholm makes my style a good mix between minimalistic and playful.”

What’s your favourite thing about Swedish style?

“That it’s all about quality over quantity.”

How would you describe your style in three words?

“Colourful, joyful and playful.”

What are your go-to brands?

“Ganni, Acne Studios, Vestiaire Collective and a vintage store here in Stockholm that I love called Lotta Vintage.”

What’s unique about living in Stockholm and how does that impact your style?

“I think having nature always close by is something very unique with Stockholm. Going out on a long walk in the woods that are only 20 minutes away does wonders for the soul and therefore my style. I feel liberated and I am able to get a good perspective on life, a feeling I show through a colourful and exciting outfit.”

What’s your favourite thing about Swedish style?

“Honestly speaking I’m not the biggest fan of the stereotypical Swedish style. It is very minimalistic and neutral-toned which if you know me is very far from my personal way of dressing.

“However, I do think that there are so many stylish people here in the city that pull it of so well, I’m just not one of them. The effortlessness of the Swedish style is something that fascinates me, if done right a beige coat and white poloneck could look like the most beautiful powerful combination.”

“I like Totême, Arket, Filippa K, Tove and Bottega Veneta.”

What’s unique about living in Stockholm and how does that impact your style?

“I like the calmness of this city and the sense of clarity that I have found here. Stockholm has made my style and wardrobe a lot more curated. I make smarter choices, I buy less and focus on quality and wearability.”

What’s your favourite thing about Swedish style?

“I like that we are picky with what goes into our wardrobes, that we care about quality materials and designs that will last.”

How would you describe your style in three words?

“It feels like ages ago that I was actually in touch with my style. Due to the pandemic, it’s been a lot of sweatsuits lately. But I would say easy, relaxed and minimalistic.”

What are your go-to brands?

“I’m not much of a brand girl, I prefer secondhand and vintage above all. My best pieces are thrifted finds. But when I buy new I love Arkets minimal aesthetic, Tòteme for the luxurious casual looks and The Frankie Shop for the more edgy pieces.”

What’s unique about living in Stockholm and how does that impact your style?

“Stockholm is a large city in a small package. You can walk almost everywhere since it’s such a tight city. We are also surrounded by water since Stockholm consists of several islands attached by bridges. So during summer, you always dress to be ready to hit the beach since you can swim almost everywhere. So I always make sure to have a swimsuit ready in my Louis Vuitton wicker basket.”

What’s your favourite thing about Swedish style?

“I definitely can appreciate the whole Scandinavian minimalistic approach to style. Swedes prefer pieces that are long-lasting, whether it comes to the way we dress or the way we decorate our homes. We are also quite simple since we don’t appreciate bragging with our clothes or homes.

“I also love that you can create your own personal style out of that minimalistic look, it’s a good base to work from to make it personal. I love to implement colour pops in my otherwise quite black looks. You can go very far with for example blue heels or a checked overcoat.”

How would you describe your style in three words?

“Expressive, leisure and versatile.”

What are your go-to brands?

“I’m a huge Scandi-brand fan. Acne Studios, Rodebjer, Our Legacy, Totême and Filippa K are the definition of how Swedish brands are dynamic yet contemporary.”

What’s unique about living in Stockholm and how does that impact your style?

“With a constant change of seasons from surprisingly cold winters to heavy-breathing summer heat, I find my wardrobe being very dynamic and rarely get tired of it. There’s always a new day with challenging weather to be creative with. I also get very inspired by our locals and how most looks give the impression of looking extremely put together without the intention.”

What’s your favourite thing about Swedish style?

“Although Swedes are well-known for our minimalism we are selective when it comes to materials. Long-lasting classic pieces are key in our wardrobes, and to put my finger on Swedish style it would be to dress up and down by finding interesting combinations with not too many different pieces. We’re sustainable as hell in that sense.”
